The children are required to bring their own lunches each day. Alpha Academy will provide snacks in the morning and in the afternoon. The snacks are “healthy” foods, such as cheese, crackers, cereal, cookies, pretzels, fruit, etc. We ask that the parents do not send in any type of “junk food” or candy bars. Gum may not be chewed at any time. Sandwiches and cold foods are standard for Pre-Primary through Kindergarten. We avoid heating foods in these classes since it often becomes a wasteful mess. The children prefer a lunch compatible with their free-play and a lunch they can handle easily along with the snacks which we provide. This policy became effective three years ago when we had so many complaints about clothes becoming stained with food and the lack of conformity between students who wanted hot food and the children who would only eat cold food, regardless of what was sent in by the parents. Good table manners are a "must" here at Alpha Academy. Please discourage your child(ren) from "walking" and "running" around while they are eating. We encourage good table manners and teach the children they must sit down at the tables whenever they are eating. We also teach them to say "Grace" before eating, and to place their napkins in the proper place. Please reinforce our rules at home. Under no circumstances are food and beverages allowed to be carried throughout the school. They are limited to the lunch boxes and opened only when seated at the lunch table.
